Meet Jim Huffman
Jim Huffman wants to be Oregon’s next U.S. Senator. Meet Jim Huffman in his own words:
Huffman: People Outraged By Huge Wall Street Bonuses Should “Get Over It”
When the Wall Street and bank executives who caused the financial meltdown started taking billions in taxpayer-funded bonuses, Huffman defended them in an April 2009 Oregonian essay titled "Outraged at Those Bonuses? Get Over It."
Huffman: We Should Privatize Social Security So Workers Can Gamble Their Retirement Savings on Wall Street
Huffman signed a FreedomWorks petition supporting President Bush’s risky scheme to gamble Americans’ retirement money on Wall Street – a plan that would have given investment firms an additional $240 billion in management fees. A recent report found that if Bush’s plan had been adopted, retirees’ benefits would have been slashed due to the massive Wall Street losses.
Huffman: Rationing of Health Care is “Unavoidable”
Huffman believes the only way to reduce health care costs is to restrict patients’ access to care, stating in an Oregonian essay that the “rationing of health care is unavoidable.”
Huffman in 2007: No Need for Congress To Take On the Sub-Prime Mortgage Crisis – the Market Will Fix Itself.
Huffman joined a 2007 FreedomWorks letter arguing that federal action to avert the mortgage meltdown was unnecessary because “market corrections have already begun.” Since then, Americans have seen the values of their homes fall by nearly $5 trillion.
Huffman Defends Global Warming Deniers
In a December 2009 essay opposed to reducing global warming pollution, Huffman defended global warming deniers and asserted that if global climate change is occurring, "adaptation may be preferable."
Huffman: We Need More Conservative Judicial Activist Judges
Speaking to the right-wing Heritage Foundation, Huffman pushed for more conservative activists on the federal bench, stating, “I will argue that the traditional conservative doctrine of judicial restraint poses a serious threat to liberty, and is therefore not consistent with the fundamental objective of the framers of the United States Constitution. ... My fear is that the Reagan revolution will come to nothing as these judges sit on their hands in the name of a simplistic theory of judicial restraint.”
